First Appointment
At your first appointment (forms to fill in sent before hand or/and phone call prior to appointment or just before appointment), I will take health and lifestyle related information to make sure, I offer you best and customized treatment, tailored your needs and rule out any contraindications.
I will also ask you what you are expecting to get out of the treatment and talk you through possible benefits.

Beginning of the treatment
Once you comfortably sat on the reflexology chair, I make sure you are bringing yourself at peace by introducing breathing techniques that can help you relax.
Every treatment I perform, I start with the highest intention to help your body get to balance it needs, in order to aid the beginning of internal healing process and back to homeostasis – whatever that means to you – it can be wish of inner peace, improvement of your energy levels through the day, a matter of your specific health condition, that you are having trouble with and would like to add additional treatment alongside your treatment received from medical practitioners or just want to try reflexology on its own.
(But if you ever find yourself concerned on whether you can safely have reflexology, please consult your doctor – they should be happy to advise if it is safe for you to receive holistic treatment)

During the treatment
What you will be experiencing depends on the state of your health, imbalances, pains and aches on the day.
I will be using different techniques to relax your feet (hands or face), I will be pressing on reflexes correspondent to the organs and systems within your body. Communication is the key, so any time you feel uncomfortable with the pressure or specific technique, just raise your hand or say.

Most of the time reflexology is a gentle treatment and it will not cause pain or discomfort, but if any of that happens, I can then lower the pressure. Any irregular painful spots within your feet (or hands/face) may indicate imbalances and by working them out I can help your body move that stagnant energy, so it’s back to its balanced, natural place.

Towards the end of the treatment, you may expect another set of relaxation techniques and mindful breathing time. I will let you relax for couple of more minutes and then bring back reflexology chair into sitting position. You may feel a bit dizzy after coming back to sitting position, so allow yourself time to stand up and do not rush.

Who could benefit?
Anyone can benefit from foot reflexology.
Unless you really do not like your feet being touched, but then.. there is always hands reflexology, that might be the perfect fit!

How it works
Different therapists – different approaches.
Reflexology in my practice is extremely relaxing and calming – you may even fall asleep.
It has its relaxing benefits, and so it lowers adrenaline levels within the body. It enhances circulation, it may relief some uncomfortable symptoms. It is non-invasive treatment (but there are some contraindications which should be ruled out during consultation).
My favorite theory explaining how reflexology works is the one build on research done in the 1890s by Sir Henry Head and Sir Charles Sherrington, who began to show through their research that a neurological relationship exists between the skin and the internal organs, and that the whole nervous system adjusts to a stimulus.
According to the theory, the reflexologist’s application of pressure to feet, hands, or ears sends a calming message from the peripheral nerves in these extremities to the central nervous system, which in turn signals the body to adjust the tension level. This enhances overall relaxation, brings internal organs and their systems into a state of optimum functioning, and increases blood supply (which brings additional oxygen and nutrients to cells and enhances waste removal). It positively affects the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, immune, and neuropeptide systems in the body. *

Benefits
POSSIBLE BENEFITS FOR SOMEONE WHO IS HAVING:

  • specific condition and needs support with it – alongside other treatments (migraines/headaches, IBS, muscular/skeletal pains, back pain, arthritis pain, multiple sclerosis, list not exhaustive)
  • menopause related symptoms,
  • stress related symptoms / stressful job (including part time and stay at home mum/dad job – to the parents out there – I hear you – it is not always easy to be a parent, it is draining, exhausting mentally and physically, and you do need time just for yourself)
  • issues with the digestive tract (eg. constipation)
  • mental and physical pain – according to “Gate control theory of pain” reflexology (also acupuncture and acupressure) has a potential to crowd out “slow” pain signals that nerves can carry by generating other signals which move faster and so can reach the brain sooner. The fast signals are in that case competing stimulus that can effectively block the pain signals from reaching the brain. (General summary from Naturaltherapypages.com)

Please note that reflexology will not cure you.

  • It may only provide the benefits of relaxation, relief of some symptoms or making them less of a nuisance in a daily life (and here I would like you to acknowledge, that THIS is SO MUCH already…)
  • It helps your body get back on that train that carries  you back to the natural state of Health. Reflexology works great around other treatments recommended by medical professionals.
  • If you are unsure whether you can have reflexology – get in touch for a chat.

Meanwhile, I would like to invite you to have a thought about what Plato said over two thousands years ago, which I think is so valid nowadays…

The cure of the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole,
and also no attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul,
and therefore if the head and body are to be well you must begin by curing the mind: that is the first thing.
For this is the error of our day in the treatment of the human body, that physicians separate the soul from the body. ‘

(Plato, Chronicles)
